SEAQUAL® recycled marine plastic

SEAQUAL® is a Spanish company that offers a strong commitment: to fight plastic pollution. SEAQUAL®'s goal is to help clean up the oceans; raise awareness of the problems of plastic occupying the oceans and highlight the heroes working to solve them.

Since 2016, SEAQUAL INITIATIVE has marketed a range of yarns made from marine litter lying on the bottom and on the surface of oceans.

12 MILLIONS

Tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year

More than 40%

Are used only once, before being thrown away

SEAQUAL®

SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is a unique collaborative community that works with ocean cleanup programs around the world to turn the marine litter they collect into SEAQUAL®, a new, fully traceable raw material that has the power to raise awareness of the problem of marine pollution and to highlight those who contribute to combating it. By choosing products containing SEAQUAL®, you are helping to clean up the oceans.

Today, all processing of marine plastic by SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is done in Europe. It is recovered during ocean clean-up operations in Europe, the Mediterranean and the west coast of Africa.

COLLECTION

Marine litter is collected by clean-up programs.

SORTING

Marine litter is sorted into different types of materials.

THE PREPARATION

The plastic part is cleaned and transformed into SEAQUAL® MARINE PLASTIC in SEAQUAL INITIATIVE approved facilities.

THE TRANSFORMATION

The flakes are transformed into SEAQUAL INITIATIVE recycled yarn.

How does SEAQUAL® guarantee that the plastic comes from the oceans?

SEAQUAL INITIATIVE operates a Chain of Custody (CoC) throughout the supply chain, from ocean cleanup to final retail product. The CoC is a system of procedures and documents that trace the material from its origin to its end use. The CoC starts with a "certificate of origin" guaranteeing that the plastic has been removed from the marine environment. This certificate is signed by the registered organization responsible for the cleanup or the licensed waste management company collecting the marine plastic litter.
